Since the victory of the August Revolution in 1945, Hà Nội has been chosen as the Capital of Việt Nam by President Hồ Chí Minh and the first National Assembly of the Democratic Republic of Việt Nam. Still in the spirit of patriotism, peace, solidarity and development, Hà Nội has been a pioneer and gone along with the whole country to overcome the hard years in the war time and to liberate the nation. Since 1976, Hà Nội has been the Capital of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, a completely independent and unified country. During innovation time, in an all-out effort to develop in all aspects, Hà Nội has achieved great and comprehensive accomplishments, making an important contribution to the overall development of the country. Hà Nội has truly become a center of political, administrative, cultural, scientific, educational, diplomatic, economic and international transactions; Hà Nội, a sacred land of elegant people; a civilized land of heroes; belief and hope of the nation; is the soul and heart of the nation.
VIEW PANOPresident Hồ Chí Minh stressed in his Appeal for nationwide resistance that the army and people in Hà Nôi would put up “nationwide resistance” first; and ensure the safety of the Revolutionary government when it retreated to Việt Bắc to prepare for a long-term resistance.

After 2 months of fighting, the whole Capital Regiment succeeded in getting out of the enemy’s blockade, moving 38.000 people to free zone; then prepared for a protracted resistance war, 1947

When the 9-year resistance war against French colonialists ended, the soldiers of the Capital Regiment returned to take over the Capital. Hà Nội and the North became a big supporter who assisted the Southern front lines in the struggles for national unity.

On October 8, 1960, in Hanoi, the Hà Nội - Huế - Sài Gòn Brotherhood ceremony took place. The event marked the solidarity between the North and the South in the process of building Socialism in the North and of liberating the South to unify the nation.
