After the success of the August Revolution, he was appointed as an alternate member of the Southern Party Committee. At the beginning of 1946, he was sent to the North by the Central Committee to help General Secretary Trường Chinh in compiling and directing the publication of Sự thật News (Truth) - precursor of Nhân dân News.

He was additionally elected as an alternate member of the Party Central Committee and appointed as Chief of the Central Office (1948). He always supported President Hồ Chí Minh and comrades in the Standing Committee of the Party Central Committee in handling the daily affairs of the Party.

As Director of the Nguyễn Ái Quốc Central Party School (1949 - 1956), the precursor of the Hồ Chí Minh National Academy of Politics, he contributed to building up the first classes of senior cadres of the Party.

At the Second National Congress of the Party, he was elected to the Party Central Committee, alternate member of the Politburo, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Head of Central Organization Committee.

Realizing the need to build a Party that was politically, ideologically and organizationally powerful, he especially highly valued ideological education for cadres and party members. He said "to build our Party today, we must give priority to building ideology as the main guideline" and must "raise the sense of responsibility for each party member, their consciousness in serving the Party and the People, and help them have a thorough understanding of the political standpoint and consider it as the foundation for all policies, affairs and ideas in daily life”.

After the unification of the country, with his great contributions, at the 4th Congress, he was assigned by the Party to be the Secretary of the Hanoi Committee of the Party (1977 - 1986). During the important 10 years after the liberation of the country, he along with the government and people found a way to develop the Capital contributing significantly to creating the appearance of Hanoi as it is today.
