At his young age, Trường Chinh joined the patriotism movement from 1925 and later the Vietnam Revolutionary Youth Association in 1927, he was one of the pioneers of the campaign to establish the Party and also one of the first communists of the Communist Party of Vietnam (1930).

On March 9, 1945, chairing the open Conference of the Central Standing Committee, he issued an Instruction on "The encounter between Japan and France and Vietnam’s acts", which supported a general uprising. In August 1945, he was appointed by the National Conference of the Party to be in charge of the National Uprising Committee; he personally directed the organizations to bring the August Revolution of 1945 to a victory, opening up a new era for the country: an era of Independence - Freedom and Socialism.

In 1951, at the Second Congress of the Party, he was re-elected to the Central Committee, and held the position of General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Workers' Party until October 1956.

In 1960, at the Third Party Congress, he was re-elected to the Central Committee and became a member of the Politburo, who would then be in charge of the National Assembly and the Party's ideological work.

During his revolutionary activities, comrade Trường Chinh proved to be an excellent student and also a comrade-in-arms of President Hồ Chí Minh.

During the anti-American resistance war, as Chairman of the National Assembly Standing Committee, Mr. Trường Chinh and members of the Politburo worked together to prepare and issue strategic decisions, which contributed to a complete victory for the anti-American resistance war.

On July 14, 1986, at the Conference of the Central Committee, Comrade Trường Chinh was elected as General Secretary of the Party. During process of national renewal, he made an important contribution to building the foundation for that process.

Holding the position of General Secretary of the Party for three times (1941 - 1951; 1951 - 1956; July 1986 - December 1986), he devoted his life to the independence, freedom, and socialism of the nation and happiness of people.
